The Purple Passport: the Commercial and Personal CoE
Hollard Broker Markets’ Purple Passport is partner brokers’ entrée into the world of everything Hollard, specifically its Centres of Excellence (CoEs). In this article we examine the Commercial and Personal CoE.
Of all the Hollard CoEs, Commercial and Personal is the most generalised. In fact, as CoE head Andre van der Merwe puts it, “We have an incredibly wide range of clients in the commercial space. This means that over the years I have been exposed to everything from an abattoir to a zinc mine. In between I have seen microchip manufacturers, printers, door makers, undertakers, call centres, chemical factories, corner shops, coffee roasters; in fact, name it and odds are I have seen it.”
Regarding commercial insurance, this CoE employs a risk-based philosophy that means that only a few automatic risk occupations are not insured, and Hollard helps clients lessen their risk.
“We rather assess and insure the better run risks where management has a firm grip on risk control and is prepared to work with us to mitigate their potential exposures. We have a team of expert risk improvement officers who conduct on site assessments using state of the art software and thermographic imaging. This is included as part of our offering,” says Andre.
With personal insurance, the Commercial and Personal CoE insures “modest family homes in the suburbs to sprawling mansions on the coast”.
Because Hollard is committed to the Treating Customers Fairly (TCF) initiative, and not simply as a matter of compliance, policies and their wordings are formulated with convenience and clarity in mind.
Says Andre: “We are close to launching our enhanced Hollard business policy, which contains new sections for Directors and Officers Liability, Machinery Breakdown and Loss of Profits following MB. This is a significant enhancement, as a commercial client can have all of their risks catered for in a single product.
“We have also increased limits and streamlined the language used. We are also busy finalising our plain-language personal lines wording, that will allow our brokers to offer highly readable policies to clients who have no interest in insurance jargon.”
Andre adds that his CoE has also invested in a team that is rolling out its revised motor claims processes: “These are designed to ensure clients experience top-notch service as well as enable us to control costs, ensuring a sustainable partnership between client, broker and insurers that is not subject to rate increases on a regular basis.”
